Global / EU SKUs ship with eSIM enabled. Confirm by dialling *#06# — an EID line should be present.
Chinese (CN ROM) variants ship without eSIM hardware enabled, even on the same model.
Open SIM settings
Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Manage eSIM
Add eSIM
Tap 'Add eSIM'
Scan QR code
Point the camera at the QR from your provider
Confirm and activate
Confirm the carrier and wait for the profile to download. Phone must be on Wi-Fi.
Set as data line
Back on SIM cards & mobile networks, assign mobile data to the new eSIM
Open Manage eSIM
Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Manage eSIM > Add eSIM
Enter manually
Choose 'Enter activation code' instead of scanning
Paste SM-DP+ details
Paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your provider
Confirm
Confirm and wait for the profile to download. Assign mobile data to the new eSIM.
Your phone is most likely a Chinese (CN) ROM variant. Xiaomi disables eSIM on CN units even when the same model has eSIM on the Global/EU SKU. Confirm by dialling *#06# — if there is no EID line, the device has no eSIM hardware enabled.
Use Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Manage eSIM > Add eSIM > Enter activation code instead. Paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your provider. QR codes are single-use, so request a fresh one if you have already scanned it.
Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Manage eSIM, tap the profile, then Delete. Deletion does not cancel the carrier plan.
